I have been seriously slacking in the deals department. Even worse I have been slacking in the posting and sharing department which makes me feel even worse. After looking at what I want to buy for lunches for work I need to get my butt in gear though. So I will be working harder to catalog and share deals. Maybe not for as many stores-after all how many sites need to post the exact same deals-but focusing on the New England stores. Market Basket, Shaws, Hannaford and Target, maybe Walmart or some local restaurants/daily deals things for variety.

This is probably good timing for the rest of you. If you have kids they are back in school, unless you home school. If you lost power during Irene you need to replenish your fridge and freezer. Winter is coming and its time to stock up on lovely shelf stable comfort food. The holidays are just around the corner and the number of shopping days til Christmas will start to get smaller every day-no pressure but the sooner you think about it and make a list the sooner you can nab great deals on discount to help save cash.

So get out your notepad and a pen and get ready to work on that shopping list. There are some great sales this coming week and we’re going to do our best to take advantage to maximize our savings.

Shaws has released a set of dollar doublers on their facebook page. They are the same fine print as usual. $15 minimum order AFTER all other card discounts, coupons, CATs, etc. For those of you who like to be obtuse, this means you must spend at least $11 after the doublers. One set per customer, cannot be used at Self Checkout. And since the coupon policy no longer allows for splitting of transactions, this also means one set per customer per day.

Not a bad deal if you have to go out and need some stuff. For me its an extra trip across town, and there’s nothing I want to spend that amount on at Shaws when I could buy it next door at Hannaford. Which makes I think the third set of doublers I haven’t even printed out or gotten excited about.

Shaws posted earlier on their Facebook page they would release dollar doubles once they got 250 “likes” on their post by the next day. Of course they received them fairly quickly. So for next week we have 3 dollar doublers that can be used per transaction. Click here to download your copy.

Rules for using the doublers are as follows:

Must have minimum purchase of $15 after all other savings except the doublers. That means you will be spending $11 out of pocket

Coupons for doublers must not state “do not double” on them

Coupons for doublers must be $1 coupons

Coupons must be manufacturer coupons, no store coupons will be doubled

Coupons may not double to more than the item cost. That means a $1 coupon on an item for 1.49 will only net you an extra .49 discount. No overage will be given

Limit of three dollar doublers per customer

Some good ideas include $1/2 coupons that normally aren’t that great. Also any $1/1 coupons for items that are normally not cheap. Here’s what I see for potential deals in the ad (presuming the coupons do not state DND).
Kelloggs Poptarts or Raisin Bran or Fruit Loops Cereal 3/$6
$1/3 Kelloggs Poptarts – 03-06-11 RP makes them 3/$4 or 1.33 each
$1/3 Kellogg’s Cereals, any 10 oz or larger – 04-17-11 RP makes them 3/$4 or 1.33 each
Bird’s Eye Steamfresh Family Size 2/$4
$1/3 Birds Eye Steamfresh, any – 03-06-11 RP or 03-20-11 SS makes them 3/$4 or 1.33 each
Mio Water Enhancer 3.99
*free shaws 24pack water wyb any mio
$1/1 Mio Liquid Water Enhancer, any – 03-27-11 SS makes them 1.99 each
Snapple Tea 6pack bottles 2/$10
* free 64oz Snapple tea wyb two 6 packs
$1/1 Snapple Tea 6-Pack, (16oz glass bottles) – 04-03-11 SS makes them $3 each
Kelloggs Frosted Mini-wheats or Crunchy Nut Cereal or Special K Bars 2/$5
$1/3 Kellogg’s Cereals, any 10 oz or larger – 04-17-11 RP makes them 3/5.50 or 1.83 each
Fuze Beverages .88
$1/2 Fuze or Fuze Slenderize, any 16.9 oz bottles – 04-10-11 SS makes them FREE
*also B4 fuze get 1ltr of Dasani TP
Ken’s marinade 1.99
$1/1 Ken’s Marinade, any – 03-20-11 SS makes it FREE
Oreo Cookies 2.99
Oreo Fudge Cremes (11.3 oz) – 04-17-11 SS if included makes them .99 each

I’m sure there are plenty more out there. Thats just off the top of my head.

I know how it is: the deals haven’t been as fruitful at Shaws for months. Your cereal stash is beginning to look pathetic and you’ve taken to making your own pasta sauce instead of wasting a precious jar of Prego. But its time to do something about our pantries.

There have been several news stories recently about how bare the shelves are at local food pantries. The last one ran this past Sunday. You can read the full article here.

So I’d like to challenge you to stock your pantries. Not only the ones in your home, but the public ones that help fill those of our neighbors in need. If we all pitch in and help those bare shelves will be full in no time.

Many churches suggest their members tithe a percentage of their income to the church. I have always done this with my couponing. Even when I order coupons for something we NEED, such as dog food or peanut butter I set aside a couple for the food pantry or the humane society. Do you really need all 40 boxes of cereal? Or would 35 do you just as well? Many families find that they consume more often or bigger portions because there is not the feeling that they “only” have so much.

Some of you are wondering how you can possibly donate groceries when there are so few deals. Donate personal products instead. While most food pantries can purchase food from the state warehouse for pennies a pound, things like soap, toothpaste, and deodorant are not on that list. Everything from paper plates to makeup and cleaning supplies is deeply appreciated and in even higher demand than food. Anyone who does drugstore deals probably has a box full of such things. OTC meds, dish soap, paper towels, pet food. The list goes on forever and the only limit is your imagination.

So clean out your closets, add a few more things to your trip and fill those pantries. If you’ve been in a slump over the mediocre deals nothing will motivate you like providing for others.

Anyone who wants to join me for the month of October in this please post what you’ve managed to donate. I will pick one winner to receive a generous envelope full of non-insert coupons, MIRs, etc suitable for their area.

You hear me Shaws CEOs? I am so freaking tired of trying to get something on sale only to find an empty hole and the promise that “truck comes tomorrow, maybe it will be on there” or “would you like a raincheck”. ARGH. You cannot give a raincheck for a Catalina offer. Yes, some wonderful stores will make it work via a giftcard or whatnot, but who wants to shop during normal hours to avail themselves of those services? I like shopping at 10pm. Which means no stock means no deals which means someone is losing on sales they put effort into getting.

And then there are the things on “sale” or “pricelock” but not advertised. Those you cannot even get a raincheck for. Which means when you ask about the Hershey milk and its not in the flyer “but must have a longer sale date-you’ll be fine” you come in a couple days later and instead of 10/$10 its now like 1.69. So you will now have to hold onto your Hershey’s coupons you have been hoarding and pray they go back on sale before they expire. Or suck up and pay more at Hannaford. At least they carry the strawberry variety.

I don’t know what SuperValue is thinking, but they’d better pull their heads out of their butts and try harder. No real sales, no Catalinas, no stock, poor customer service from the same managers all the time. I really need to save money, but I find myself paying more to shop at Hannaford where they don’t have empty shelves and the night cashier asks if I have coupons.

$1 any Gain dishsoap-reported to be .97 each
$1 any Tide-trial size reported to be under $1
$1 any Olay body wash-trial size reported to be under $1

Will be trying to order at Shaws to use the remainder on Mr. Clean liquid. Shaws is running a Buy 30 get 10 CAT offer. So a set of 8, using 4 bogo frees is 9.96 get 10 back.

I’d love to find somewhere to use the Dove or Tide Stain Release for a good deal. Might have to keep digging.

Shaws has two different Grill Mates products on sale this week. The seasoning packets are on sale for .50 each and the shaker bottles are on sale for .99 (except the salmon in some stores which is 20% off-bleh).

This past Sunday 4/18/2010 there was either a .50/1 or $1/2 McCormick Grill Mates products coupon in the paper. The .50/1 will double which makes the shakers free, or the packets if you don’t mind them not doubling.

These are delicious. We easily used 100 of these last year between our house and my parents (and they make a great gift for friends who love to grill). The Hawaiian Luau is amazing on pork or chicken. We also like the Garlic Herb&Wine on chicken. Hickory BBQ is our favorite for beef. There are three new flavors this year: Mexican Fiesta, Southwest, and Brown Sugar Bourbon. I can’t wait to try the Brown Sugar Bourbon on pork…..mmmmm.

You can use these with the given directions or my favorite way: make marinade, toss in meat and freeze. By time it defrosts for use the marinating time is done. Easy and simple.
